POSITIONS FOR FIELD ASSISTANTS AND VOLUNTEERS FOR PALAEOANTHROPOLOGICAL RESEARCH

Project description:
We are looking for field assistants (paid) and volunteers (unpaid) to assist with exploration and excavations at palaeoanthropological localities in the Siwalik Hills region of the Chandigarh Siwalik Frontal Range. The project is funded by the Royal Anthropological Institute (London), Paleontological Society (U.S.A.) and The Lithic Studies Society.
Work will majorly include field explorations in the Siwalik Hills, on-site documentation and collection of fossils and lithic artefacts, excavations at various fossil localities and geological sampling.
The work will go on for 7 months and one field assistant will be employed for each month. A monthly stipend of 8000/- INR will be paid to the field assistants only. In addition, local travel (to and from the sites only) and lodging will be paid for (both field assistants and volunteers). No stipend will be paid to the field volunteers. Incase additional funding is acquired, volunteers will also be awarded after completion of one month of stay. Experience certificates will be provided to all.
Preferable qualifications:
- Preferably a Bachelors or Masters degree in any of the associated fields (archaeology/geology/anthropology)
- Preferably a background or profound interest in palaeontology or prehistoric archaeology
- Be motivated, energetic and have the ability to maintain a positive attitude towards daily and extensive field work
- Be ready to live under very basic conditions and closely together with a small team of the researchers
- Having good observation skills, patience, persistence and high level of attention to details
- Be motivated, energetic and have the ability to maintain a positive attitude as the work can be both physically and mentally exhausting
Field work will be undertaken from November-December 2021 and February-July 2022
